Mark P. Finlay
The moment from which I derive the greatest professional satisfaction is when someone walks into a house for the first time and says, "you nailed it!" That's the architecture of joy."
Once a young explorer content among the trees and nature of his boyhood home in Northbrook Illinois, Mark Finlay's passion for beauty and design drove him from the Chicago suburb to eventually work with the renowned architectural firm of Kevin Roche and John Dinkeloo. His wealth of experience grew over time, as a part of the team that completed some of the iconic works of Eero Saarinen. Branching out, Finlay started his own firm in 1984. After 35 masterful years, completing works of artful design around the country, Mark P. Finlay Architects offers us Country Houses: The Architecture of Mark P. Finlay. (April 1, 2018; ISBN: 9781864707298; IMAGES PUBLISHING).
This beautiful monograph invites readers into Finlay's artistic world, unveiling how his keen insights lead to creation of the most personal and memorable of spaces: a home. Pretty Pink Tulips
Country Houses: The Architecture of Mark P. Finlay highlights 12 of his projects and gives the reader a detailed architectural account of how they came to be. These are not the type of homes that are on your typical home tour, so it’s as if Mark has ushered us past the gates and granted us access to a world most of us only dream of. Finlay does not strive to have a style attributed to him, but rather wants each home to reflect it’s owners.
