Newport, Rhode Island
Originally the carriage house for a prominent Peabody & Stearns estate, this historic home had fallen into disrepair before being renovated into a two-family residence. The current owners wanted the residence enlarged with an enhanced aesthetic that would capture the eclectic Shingle style architecture distinct to Newport. The new residence, an asymmetrical structure composed of symmetrical parts, incorporated detailing from the original cottage and is positioned to take advantage of nearby water vistas. Private landscape courtyards surrounding the house and interiors constructed from reclaimed lumber create a relaxing and comfortable family home.
