Spring Island Residence

Spring Island, South Carolina

Nestled into a remote bluff overlooking the Chechessee Creek, this French Colonial plantation home references classical elements while showcasing contemporary design capabilities.  Per the low-country tradition, the first floor is clad in stucco and anchored with robust columns, while a more refined upper floor incorporates beaded clapboard and turned wood columns.  Tall French doors topped by transoms and protected by operable shutters articulate the facade.  Characteristic twelve-foot high coffered ceilings, limestone flooring, tapered columns, wainscoted walls, and deep wrap around porches complete the aesthetic of this Southern retreat.  Architectural Digest featured the residence soon after it was completed, describing its aesthetic as “high style for a low country residence.”
