Strategically located atop a hill on twenty acres of land parceled from the former Conyers Farm Estate, this Georgian residence recreates old world grandeur. Drawing inspiration from its predecessor, the house is placed in the same location as the original Conyers Manor and designed to emulate Georgian houses of the same era. While the houses are of different architectural styles, the newly constructed home utilizes timeless materials, authentic detailing, and construction techniques similar to those used at the turn of the twentieth-century. Hand-carved limestone details punctuate a building clad in fieldstone and roofed in slate, and interiors finished in plaster and wood lend authenticity to the new, old house. Tasked with creating a family-friendly residence within a formal composition, the architect used an H-plan to organize the structure. The main block comprises formal entertaining areas, while wings provide private spaces for the family. One contains the owner’s office, screened porch, and two-story library, while the other encompasses the kitchen, breakfast room, and family room. Recreational areas, including basketball and tennis courts, are formally organized around an auto court and connect to this main hub of the home, and a unique pool house features French doors that retract into the floor to form an outdoor, covered space. Throughout the home, details incorporate the owner’s personality, such as rain catchers featuring bronze-cast superhero reliefs. Successful integration of the formal and playful leads to an iconic home focused around family life.
