Waterfront Shingle Style

Southport, Connecticut

Interior Design: David Kleinberg
Photography: Durston Saylor, Larry Lambrecht, Steve Turner

Set on seven acres of waterfront property adjacent to Southport Harbor, this 17,500-square-foot Shingle style home overlooks the Long Island Sound.  A new residence for repeat clients, the home elevates and refines the stripped down, Adirondack-inspired Shingle style of their previous residence.  Detailing of curved brackets, bell-shaped roofs, and eyebrow windows lends sophistication to the new residence, which is comprised of rooms conscientiously sized ten percent larger than those at their former residence.  Designed to give each portion of the home a unique perspective of the waterfront, the plan is strategically organized; vertical towers serve as hinges between sections of the home that are oriented to look up and down the harbor.  The estate also features a landmark dock and historic boat house built by the famous actor who previously owned the land.  In addition to being featured in Architectural Digest and Westport Magazine, the residence served as a set location for the Disney film “Old Dogs” and was featured on the MTV television series “Teen Cribs.”
