Fairfield County Hunt Club
Westport, Connecticut
The Fairfield County Hunt Club, an iconic historic property set on 40 acres in Westport, Connecticut, serves as a vibrant center for polo matches, equestrian events, training, and private gatherings. In 2015, Mark Finlay Architects undertook a comprehensive renovation and expansion to modernize the club’s facilities while preserving its historic character and architectural integrity.
Although the updated design remains visually consistent with the original structure, the building was reimagined to better support the evolving needs of its membership. The project added approximately 3,180 square feet, including a new Grill Room and Polo Room, enhancing both social and functional spaces within the club.
A key focus of the redesign was strengthening the connection between interior spaces and the surrounding landscape. Large windows and French doors were introduced to invite natural light and frame views of the grounds, while generous covered porches and an outdoor fireplace create comfortable gathering spaces for members to relax after events. The result is a thoughtful balance of tradition and modernization, reinforcing the club’s legacy while elevating the overall member experience.
