Fishers Island Club
Fishers Island Club
Fishers Island, New York
The storied Fisher’s Island Club, located on Fisher’s Island, New York at the mouth of Long Island Sound between New York and Connecticut, is set against a breathtaking coastal backdrop. The new clubhouse, understated yet highly refined, reflects the character of this historic club, originally established in the 1920s.
Mark Finlay Architects designed the 35,000-square-foot clubhouse to fully embrace its extraordinary setting, maximizing both golf course and water views through a series of covered outdoor terraces and screened porches. The architecture, expressed in a timeless Shingle Style, is complemented by interiors by Tom Scheerer, whose design captures the club’s nostalgic spirit through thoughtfully detailed spaces possessing a warm, homey atmosphere.
With a strong emphasis on the game of golf, the design is a reflection of MFA’s extensive clubhouse experience to meet the evolving needs of the membership. A more clearly defined arrangement of dining spaces allows the club to accommodate large events while simultaneously providing comfortable, everyday experiences for members. Operational efficiency was also a key driver: golf functions are now seamlessly integrated yet discreetly separated, ensuring they do not interfere with the experience of non-golfing members.
The new ‘old’ clubhouse is highly functional and flexible, enhancing the overall club operations while expanding the range and quality of services available to its membership.
