Greenfield Hill Renovation

Situated prominently in Greenfield Hill, this existing home was ready for a complete refresh and thoughtful reorganization. The owners, a young family, wanted a residence that reflected their values and lifestyle while honoring the historic character of their new neighborhood. MPF was tasked with creating a plan that simplified circulation, enhanced livability, and infused the home with energy both inside and out.

The renovation touched every corner of the house, with the most significant transformation in the kitchen. New cabinetry, expansive windows, and the removal of a large fireplace and stair dramatically increased natural light and improved access to adjoining spaces. The entry sequence was reimagined with a smaller, more efficient foyer that now opens directly—and transparently—into the main living areas, offering immediate views through to the rear of the property.

For the exterior, Finlay celebrated the home’s French Country roots by retaining the quoins and adding dormers, while introducing a brighter, more contrasting palette to bring new vitality to the façade.

Landscape design was central to the project. With much of the family’s life spent outdoors, the Mark Finlay landscape team created spaces that were as thoughtful as they were functional. Along the rear, a wide expanse of wetlands—teeming with wildlife and native vegetation—was preserved as a focal point, keeping views open and access unobstructed. The rest of the landscape was kept clean and restrained, with terraces and pathways softened by creeping thyme and potted greenery that complement the crisp white stucco. The entry courtyard garden gained a substantial new wall, a custom wood-and-metal gate, and a mix of brick and gravel paving, creating a refined yet welcoming arrival.
