Established in 1917 by Charles Blair Macdonald, founder of the USGA, the iconic Links Club is a city clubhouse and sister club to The National Golf Links of America on Long Island. Housed within a Georgian Revival building originally constructed in the 1880s, the clubhouse was later redesigned by Cross & Cross to reflect the Scottish and British roots of the club.
Long devoted to the golfing interests, the Links Club has counted world leaders—including President Dwight D. Eisenhower—among its members, along with many of society’s most influential figures since its founding.
Mark Finlay Architects undertook an extensive renovation of the club’s top two floors, including a complete transformation of the rooftop into a highly coveted patio and bar, the creation of a private library, and the renovation of the Auchincloss Ballroom. Honoring the club’s historic legacy was paramount to the design approach, informing details such as the custom rooftop fountain and the lead-lined insignia motif integrated into the central light shaft enclosure.
