Regency Residence

Fairfield, Connecticut

Screened from a scenic roadway in Southport, Connecticut, this Regency-style residence stands gracefully along the shores of Long Island Sound. Subtly referencing the owner’s Norwegian heritage, the home’s restrained aesthetic evokes a serene coastal retreat set within its 3.5-acre waterfront site.

The master plan thoughtfully organizes a collection of complementary structures, including the main house, a pool house with an adjoining pool and spa, a guest house, and tennis courts accompanied by a dedicated viewing pavilion. Each element is carefully sited to preserve open views to the water while establishing a cohesive architectural composition across the property. Together, these components create a layered residential experience that balances privacy, recreation, and connection to the coastal landscape.

Defined by clean lines and a smooth stucco façade, the simplified material palette allows the architect’s precisely composed Neoclassical detailing to take prominence. The exterior’s quiet elegance is matched by interiors that fully embrace the home’s extraordinary setting. Generous windows in every room frame expansive water views, filling the spaces with natural light and reinforcing a strong connection to the landscape.

Inside, a cohesive palette of soft crème walls and moldings is enlivened by furnishings in layered blue tones, echoing the shifting hues of the Sound. The result is an atmosphere that is both bright and tranquil—an understated yet sophisticated interpretation of coastal living. Distinctive in its refinement, the residence stands as a timeless presence within this charming New England town.
