Sankaty Head Golf Club

Nantucket, Massachusetts

Perched along the coastline of Nantucket Island, overlooking the iconic Sankaty Head Lighthouse, Sankaty Head Golf Club has been a defining presence since its founding in 1923. Renowned as one of the few true world-class links-style courses in the United States, the club occupies a site of exceptional natural beauty and historic significance.

Seeking to restore the clubhouse to its original spirit while enhancing its functionality, the club undertook a comprehensive renovation. Central to the design was a renewed emphasis on capturing the site’s extraordinary 360-degree views—an experience previously diminished by the placement of back-of-house spaces.

Guided by Nantucket’s architectural heritage and the traditions of seaside design, the project reimagined both the exterior and interior of the building. The massing and façade were carefully reconfigured to align with the island’s vernacular, while the interior plan was reorganized to prioritize primary gathering spaces along the perimeter, allowing uninterrupted visual connections to the surrounding course and coastline.
