Nestled within Tamarack Heights on Stratton Mountain in Vermont, this unostentatious 10,000-square-foot mountain residence is discreetly set at the convergence of two ski slopes. Spanning three stories, the home offers true ski-in/ski-out access from both the first and second floors, functioning equally well as a winter ski retreat or a quiet summer escape from city life.

Passionate about skiing, mountain living, and the outdoors, the homeowners envisioned a second home that would site quietly within the landscape. Locally sourced stone, timber and granite, combined with a muted exterior palette, allows the house to blend natural into its alpine surroundings.

An open floor plan frames expansive views of the Green Mountains, including Bromley Ski Resort and Stratton Mountain, while providing generous space for entertaining family and guests. The great room serves as the heart of the home, featuring soaring cathedral ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows that draw the surrounding landscape indoors. A double-sided fieldstone heath anchors the space, subtly defining the great room from the kitchen and dining areas while maintaining a sense of openness throughout the main living level. 

Despite the steeply sloped site, outdoor living spaces were carefully integrated into the natural land forms. A stone terrace with an outdoor fireplace and hot tub extends directly from the first floor, offering immediate access to the ski trails and year-round engagement with the natural setting. Interior amenities are thoughtfully distributed across the home: the lower level includes a ski room, exercise room, wine room, and secondary living space: the first houses the kitchen, dining and family rooms beneath wooden trussed, cathedral ceilings: and the second floor contains the primary suite and guest bedrooms. Constructed of native materials and detailed in a restrained Alpine vernacular, the residence maintains a rustic yet refined character that is unmistakably Vermont. After a three-year design and construction process, the homeowners now enjoy a luxurious yet grounded mountain retreat – one that balances openness, comfort, and breathtaking views to create an ideal family escape in every season.
