Southport Harbor Residence

Located at the mouth of Southport Harbor, this historic 19th-century Colonial Revival residence commands sweeping views over Long Island Sound. In collaboration with the local historic commission, Mark Finlay Architects undertook a series of sensitive additions and renovations, carefully extending the home’s original architectural language while reimagining the interiors for contemporary living.

The result is a refined balance between past and present, where a quintessentially traditional exterior gives way to a “contemporary classic” interior sensibility. The newly designed kitchen is oriented toward the harbor, with bay windows framing expansive water views, while the primary suite is strategically positioned to capture vistas both up and down the shoreline.

Through thoughtful planning and precise detailing, the residence preserves its historic character while embracing the expectations of modern life.
