Stone Barn

Ridgefield, Connecticut

Conceived as a private retreat within a Ridgefield, Connecticut estate, this stone and timber barn was designed as a “new old” structure—one that seamlessly integrates into the historic context of the existing compound while reflecting the owner’s lifestyle.

The program encompasses a main living space, a pub room with wet bar, wine cellar, gym, and a library/conference room, along with generous outdoor living and dining areas. An extensive outdoor kitchen, complete with a large pizza oven, further extends the building’s role as a place for gathering and recreation.

Situated adjacent to the pool, the structure expresses a thoughtful fusion of rustic and modern sensibilities. Sleek vertical wood siding is juxtaposed with natural stone, creating a balanced material dialogue that feels both grounded and timelessly contemporary.

Inside, the main living area is defined by dramatic 21-foot exposed timber-framed ceilings, with a lofted lounge overlooking the space below. Each space embodies the relaxed environment of a traditional barn while serving as a sophisticated, modern destination.
