Waterfront Shingle Style

Southport, Connecticut

Set on seven acres of waterfront property adjacent to Southport Harbor, this 17,500-square-foot shingle-style residence commands sweeping views of the Long Island Sound. Designed for repeat clients, the home refines and elevates the stripped-down, Adirondack-inspired shingle style of their previous residence. Sophisticated detailing—including curved brackets, bell-shaped roofs, and eyebrow windows—adds nuance and elegance, while rooms throughout the house are thoughtfully scaled approximately ten percent larger than those in the clients’ former home.

To ensure that each portion of the residence engages the waterfront in a distinct way, the plan is strategically organized. Vertical tower elements act as architectural hinges, linking sections of the house that are oriented to capture views up and down the harbor. The estate is further distinguished by a landmark dock and a historic boathouse, originally constructed by the well-known actor who once owned the property.
