Whippoorwill Club

Founded in 1928, The Whippoorwill Club occupies one of the highest elevations in Westchester County, affording expansive views across its storied landscape. In response to the evolving needs of its 350 members, the club commissioned a new facility that would introduce modern amenities while preserving its long-standing traditions.

Drawing inspiration from the work of McKim, Mead & White, the design takes the form of a two-story Shingle Style clubhouse, carefully sited to maximize views of the club’s renowned golf course, originally designed by Donald Ross. The building’s composition emphasizes both elegance and informality, aligning with the heritage of early American club architecture.

Generous banks of floor-to-ceiling windows line the dining and grill rooms, opening onto a deep wraparound porch supported by robust fluted columns. These elements reinforce a strong connection between interior spaces and the surrounding course, while encouraging a relaxed, social atmosphere.

On the second floor, locker facilities are thoughtfully positioned to feel integrated rather than remote, accessed via a gracious stair rising from the main social spaces below. The clubhouse seamlessly blends tradition and modern functionality, offering members an elevated yet familiar experience rooted in the club’s historic identity.
